The 2001 Montana State Championship was the first large W.F.D.A. Chairman sanctioned contest held in Montana. It was a 3 out of 5, 3X Standing Blank Elimination contest.
The contest site of the Montana State Championship was the Stetson Ford dealership in Big Timber.

Darryl Blinn, Gary Tryon and an unknown shooter in a "bye" in Men's A division. A bye is shot when there are an uneven number of shooters in a division. the last three shooters drawn in that division all shoot a single shot at their targets. The shooter with the fastest shot wins the bye and gets to sit out the round while the other two shooters fight it out. One person will walk away with an "X".
